Myth: You should rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth.
Fact: Rinsing immediately after you brush removes much of the beneficial fluoride from the teeth. Waiting for at least 30 minutes to consume a drink or rinse your mouth allows the fluoride to stay activated longer.
At night, you can simply go to bed without rinsing.
If you notice food particles in your mouth, try flossing teeth first before brushing, then rinse your mouth after you floss and proceed with two minutes of brushing.
Myth: Fruit juice is better for your smile than soda.
Fact: Fruit juices may be deceiving. Some are healthier options, while others have added sugar and citric acid (for a preservative) that are just as risky for teeth. Sticking with plain water is the best option. If you must drink juice, opt for the 100% juice with no other ingredients.
Myth: You should brush your teeth right after your meal.
Fact: Because of the acid and sugar in foods, eating may temporarily soften your enamel. Your saliva will help to restore the normal pH of your mouth. Waiting at least 30 minutes after you eat to brush your teeth will give your enamel an opportunity to recover from your meal.
