Digital X-Rays and Intraoral Camera in Vallejo, CA

dental x-rays | Vallejo CA DentistNext to prevention, early diagnosis is one of the best ways to keep our patients healthy. At the Vallejo dental office of Morgan Nordstrom DDS and Emily Thai DMD, we utilize the latest in technology to diagnose early and accurately.

Digital X-Ray Technology in 94590

Taking x-rays is one of the ways that we diagnose common problems such as bone loss, decay, infection, and damaged teeth. We take routine x-rays each year at one of your regular cleaning and exam appointments. Digital x-rays allow us to see inside your tooth structure for any issues that we cannot detect on the outside from a visual exam alone.

Digital x-rays have numerous benefits over the old methods. For instance, digital x-rays appear instantly on our computer screens, so we can make sure we got readable images of all of your teeth before you leave the dental office. That way, if we need to take an image over again, we can, ensuring that we won’t miss anything.

One of the biggest benefits is much lower radiation exposure than with the old film methods. The radiation emitted from digital x-rays is among the lowest in the medical field. They produce 80% less radiation than film methods.

Because of digital technology, it is easier for us to share your x-rays with specialists, should it become necessary. We can collaborate on your treatment and ensure that everyone is on the same page. It’s just another way to make your dental visits more convenient.

Finally, digital images have a much higher resolution, and Dr. Nordstrom can apply tools to manipulate the image, adjusting the contrast or brightness to look more closely at a suspicious area. Digital technology allows for closer inspection, previously unavailable in traditional x-rays.

What Do We Use Digital X-Rays For?

There are several circumstances in which our dentists might recommend digital x-rays. Here's what you should know.

Yearly Baseline

Annual bite-wing x-rays give us a baseline to follow on how your teeth are doing. We can spot any changes that could indicate early signs of concern.

Treatment Planning

Dental x-rays help plan certain procedures ahead of time, such as Invisalign® treatment, dental implants, oral surgery, or root canal treatment.

Dental Emergencies

If you have a troubled tooth, our dentists use a periapical x-ray to help diagnose the problem and plan the best course of action to treat your tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

dental xrays | Dentist Vallejo CADr. Nordstrom and Dr. Vizzolini use both x-rays and a clinical exam that consists of close inspection of your teeth, soft tissue, and bite to determine your oral health and treatment needs. X-rays help us to see what is not otherwise visible. They can detect conditions such as dental caries (decay), infection, abscesses, cracked roots, and bone loss. Often, we identify dental disease on x-rays before we can see it in your mouth. This is important because it allows our dentists to treat disease at stages when the treatment is less expensive, less time-consuming, and more predictable.

Digital dental x-rays emit 80% less radiation than traditional dental x-rays. Dental x-rays have always been among the lowest in radiation to begin with, but with digital technology, they are even lower. We only take x-rays once yearly unless you have treatment or an emergency that requires additional images.

Important Diagnostic Tool in Dentistry

The small cost of digital x-rays pays for itself with the ability to diagnose dental conditions early and minimize the treatment necessary to restore your dental health. Our goal is always to prevent dental disease or to treat it while it is still a minor problem. If you have questions about what dental x-rays can do for you, call our dental office and our team will be happy to address your specific concerns.

X-rays are an essential diagnostic tool that our dentists use to identify problems like tooth decay, bone loss, damaged teeth, and infections. Our Vallejo dentists recommend that you have one set of bitewing x-rays done each year and a more extensive panoramic x-ray every five years for a more comprehensive view of your dental health.

If you're experiencing tooth pain or a specific issue, our dentists may need to take an x-ray called a periapical that focuses on one particular area.

Today's digital x-rays are safer than ever before for both our patients and the environment. Digital x-rays emit 90 percent less radiation than x-rays taken on film, and they're immediately available for your dentist to review, which provides a quicker diagnosis.

Because they don't require us to handle harsh chemicals for development, digital x-rays leave a smaller footprint on the environment.

Digital x-rays also provide a clearer picture for our dentists to pinpoint any areas of concern as early as possible.

We typically incorporate digital x-rays in Vallejo, CA into your routine teeth cleanings and checkups, and most dental insurance plans cover yearly bitewings. So be sure to take advantage of this diagnostic tool that will help you protect your dental health and your beautiful smile.

Call (707) 643-2660 today to schedule your next preventive dental teeth cleaning and checkup.

You should visit your dentist every six months for checkups and teeth cleanings. Periodically, during these visits, your dentist runs x-rays if you have no recent films on file or we suspect an underlying condition. We also take x-rays if you’re a new patient and do not have recent films to share with our team.

However, there is no hard or fast rule about how often you should have dental x-rays in Vallejo, CA.

About Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays are not like the heavy films used in previous decades. They emit far less radiation and are safer for patients. Additionally, they are easier on the environment, and we can store them electronically.

Digital x-rays allow your dentist to diagnose conditions that are not apparent during your routine checkup. For example, if you have tooth pain but no signs of decay. Maybe you have a sensitive tooth, but the cause is not visible.

Digital x-rays also play an essential role in procedure planning, allowing for precise dental treatments and predictable outcomes.

Digital Intraoral Camera

patient getting xray | Dentist vallejo ca

Have you ever wondered how your dentist knows something just by looking at your tooth? Well, now we can share that information with you through our intraoral camera. An intraoral camera is a small camera we connect to our computer that we can use to photograph areas inside your mouth so that we can share them with you or a specialist, or keep for our records for comparison in the future.

If we see a crack in your tooth, a suspicious lesion, or a potential infection, we can take a picture with our intraoral camera, bring it up on our computer screen and share the information with you, pointing out what we notice about your tooth or the soft tissues in your mouth.

Our patients love being able to see what we see so they can more fully understand their conditions and treatment.
