Whether your dentist’s office is closed or you just can’t make it in for your dental appointment right away, there will be times in your life when it won’t be feasible for you to have your six-month cleaning and exam on time. The COVID-19 shutdown has made it difficult for our Vallejo patients to attend their regular dental check ups and elective procedures.
The good news is that even when you can’t visit our Vallejo dentist, you can still take care of your teeth.
Healthy Habits for Happy Smiles
Caring for your teeth isn’t difficult—it just requires practice and a little bit of determination. While it’s easy to make choices that are bad for your teeth, we encourage you to go the extra mile and take the few necessary minutes each day to keep your smile healthy and strong.
Our Vallejo dentists recommend the following steps to care for your teeth while you can’t go to your dentist:
- Keep brushing and flossing every day. Flossing is a tempting hygiene step to skip, but it’s one of the most valuable things you can do to protect your teeth and gums. Make sure to floss every morning or night before you brush to keep plaque from hardening between your teeth.
- Choose teeth-friendly foods and drinks. If you’re used to visiting the dentist every six months and suddenly can’t, now is not the time to pick up a soda habit or start snacking on candy throughout the day. When you go longer between dental exams, you need to be extra careful about what you consume. Stick to fluoride-treated water and tooth-friendly snacks, such as crunchy fruits, nuts, and leafy greens.
- Clean or replace your toothbrush. You should always replace your toothbrush every three months, but keeping your brush clean is especially important if there’s an illness in your home or when you can’t make it to the dentist. If you suspect yours is dirty, or if it’s been exposed to known carriers of the coronavirus, throw it out.
